See here for a 1991 image with Supernova 1999c1 (arrowed), taken with my 14.5" f5 Newtonian, 80 minutes on hypered Tech Pan 2415. The small galaxy to the NNW (upper left) is NGC 4516 (1.8'x0.8', 12.3v mag, Cl:SB(rs)ab?). The small galaxy to the SSW (lower left) is IC 3478 (1.4'x1.2', 14.2p mag, Cl:SAB0:) From the NGC / IC Project: Contemporary Visual Observation(s) for NGC 4501 NGC 4501 = M88 = U07675 = MCG +03-32-059 = CGCG 099-076 = PGC 41517 12 31 59.0 +14 25 10 V = 9.6; Size 6.9x3.7; SB = 13.0; PA = 140d 17.5": very bright, very large, elongated 5:2 NW-SE, brighter core, intense very small or stellar nucleus. A faint double star is embedded at the SE end (mag 13.5/14.5 at 20"). A brighter double star mag 11/12 at 30" is 5' S of center. Located at the NE end of "Markarian's chain" in the core of Virgo cluster. - by Steve GottliebContemporary Visual Observation(s) for NGC 4516 NGC 4516 = UGC 07703 = MCG +03-32-067 = CGCG 099-087 = PGC 41661 12 33 07.6 +14 34 30 V = 12.8; Size 1.7x1.0; SB = 13.1; PA = 0d 17.5": faint, small, very elongated N-S, small well defined core.
