| Notes: | NGC 147 and NGC 185 are two satellite
galaxies of M 31 (the 'Great Galaxy in
Andromeda'). I shot these two dwarf galaxies with long exposures
during the October 'moon up' period. From the NGC / IC Project: Contemporary Visual Observation(s) for NGC 185NGC 0185 = UGC 00396 = MCG +08-02-010 = CGCG 550-009 = PGC 02329 00 38 57.2 +48 20 15 V = 9.2; Size 11.7x10.0; SB = 14.3; PA = 35d 17.5": bright, very large, slightly elongated ~E-W, broad concentration but no nucleus. Three mag 14 stars are at the W, NW and SW ends. Higher surface brightness than N147. The brightest globular is located 8' N of center and is a marginal object at high power (see description). This is a satellite system of M31 and a Local Group member. 8": fairly faint, fairly large, diffuse, N147 58' WNW. - by Steve Gottlieb |
