| Notes: | This open cluster is centered on the bright star (SAO 57903, 6.5 magnitude)
in the center of this image. The cluster is also on the southern
periphery of the larger open cluster Czernik 20 (18',
mag --, Cl: IV 1 p). According to "Star Clusters", by Brent Archinal and Steven Hynes, the size of this open cluster is 10 arc minutes. From the NGC / IC Project: Contemporary Visual Observation(s) for NGC 1857NGC 1857 = Cr 61 = Mel 32 = OCL-428 05 20 06 +39 20.6 V = 7.0; Size 6 13.1": 50-60 stars resolved surrounding mag 7.5 SAO 57903 near the center. This is a very pleasing cluster and is rich in faint mag 13/14 stars. - by Steve Gottlieb |
