Notes: |
This rich open cluster is situated at the Northern portion of a
large (150' x 60') streamer of nebulosity called IC 2177,
Sh2-292, LBN
1027, etc; also known as the "Seagull" or "Eagle" nebula. This large
complex contains several more open clusters and named nebulous sections,
well worth imaging in years to come. From the NGC / IC Project: Contemporary Visual Observation(s) for NGC 2335NGC 2335 = Cr 127 = Mel 60 = OCL-562 07 06 49 -10 01.7 V = 7.2; Size 12 17.5": 50-60 stars mag 10.5-14 in a 10' diameter. Mag 6.9 SAO 134220 is 10' NE of the core. In the center is a 1' parallelogram formed by four mag 10.5-12 stars with parallel sides oriented E-W and NW-SE. There are no dense areas (overall fairly scattered appearance) although includes several subgroups. A wide mag 12 double is on the N side. Located at the N tip of the huge emission nebula IC 2177. - by Steve Gottlieb |
