NGC / IC Project: Contemporary Visual Observation(s) for NGC 891 NGC 0891 = UGC 01831 = MCG +07-05-046 = CGCG 538-052 = PGC 09031 02 22 33.4 +42 21 03 V = 9.9; Size 13.5x2.5; SB = 13.6; PA = 22d 17.5" (8/31/86): bright, extremely large, edge-on 5:1 SSW-NNE, 10'x2'. A striking dust lane bisects the galaxy and is most prominent through the bulging central region. 13" (9/11/82): dust lane visible with averted. 8": fairly bright, large, edge-on, central bulge. - by Steve Gottlieb |
